Well- Baby Clinics: There is evidence that modern pediatric knowledge can be successfully applied to groups of children and parents in free clinics. A follow-up study of a group of children, most of whom had been under supervision in clinics for infant welfare since birth, showed them to have good health, low incidence of serious illness, low mortality, and absence of serious physical defects. Care counts.
The counseling service of the Child Study Association of America aims to accomplish in the realm of mental health what the well- baby clinicsbaby clinics do with respect to physical health. By means of this service, parents who have a good basic relationship with their children but are troubled about some phase of their children's development, or about marital problems that might adversely affect the child, have an opportunity to talk with someone who is understanding.
CHILDBIRTH is the process by which a baby is expelled from the uterus, or womb, through the vagina to the outside world. Normally, a baby is born about 38 weeks (266 days) after it is conceived. In some cases, however, the baby may be born after only 26 weeks, and in others it may taJce as long as 41 weeks. Generally, if a baby is born before 35 weeks after conception, it is considered to be premature. |
