Training Activities For Graduates: OIKOS Centro Studi of Bologna continues its training activities for graduates with four courses starting in March and April 2004. In collaboraton with DAPT - Dipartimento di Architettura e Pianificazione Territoriale, the University Masters program, 2nd level, in ecosustainable architecture begins on 4 March in Bologna, registration by 13 Feb 2004, while the Masters in Design for architecture, 11 March in Ravenna, has a registration deadline of 16 Feb.
A university degree is required for male teachers in primary schools and for all teachers in secondary schools, and the year of professional training for graduates that is still optional in England is compulsory. In neither country is any professional training required or commonly taken by teachers entering university teaching.
They conclude that 'such training is not developed within the current initial training programmes'.The huge variety in the length and quality of training to meet the needs of this age group are clearly tabulated by Oberhuemer and Ulich (1997). At a time when most European countries have been moving towards an all-graduate teaching profession, there have been fears in England and Wales (though not in Scotland where training to teach very young children was extended in 1994) that we are about to remove that status from the teachers of the very young. |
