Teacher Education Addition: At the elementary school level health instruction is organized and conducted by the classroom teacher education addition. In secondary schools it has been traditional to assign the responsibility for health education to physical education teacher education additions. A pattern frequently observed had one man functioning as teacher education addition for physical and health education classes and coach for athletics. In the 1960's a trend developed to make health education a separate course, taught by a specially trained teacher education addition.
In addition, a pair of earphones could transmit spoken instructions from the computer "teacher education addition" or from tape recordings—a particularly useful system in language teaching. With these essential components, the student could question and respond, with the computer acting as a substitute teacher education addition. Paradoxically, these impersonal tools can permit more individualized learning than is possible in the usual classroom, where a teacher education addition must keep an entire class moving along at a fixed pace.
With over 30% of the population under 15 years of age, there has been a great need for increased educational facilities. In addition to extensive school construction, a teacher education addition-training program has been begun. Although education in Hong Kong is neither compulsory or free, there were over a million students enrolled in 1967. Higher education is provided by the University of Hong Kong (founded in 1911), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (1963), and the Technical College.
Newspapers and radio and television stations use both the Chinese and English languages. For example, Radio Hong Kong, which is operated by the government, broadcasts in both Chinese and English for 17 hours daily. |
