Set With Baby Carriage: There are three ways in which adults can help a baby learn the things appropriate for him during his first two years. The first is to establish and maintain the constructive personal relations which have already been emphasized. The second is to provide an environment in which he will find appropriate stimuli at each stage of his growth. During the first six months, the baby's crib, his carriage (for trips), his mother's arms, and a few safe and sanitary toys constitute a sufficiently stimulating environment. The third is to guide him in the use of this environment.
CHILDBIRTH is the process by which a baby is expelled from the uterus, or womb, through the vagina to the outside world. Normally, a baby is born about 38 weeks (266 days) after it is conceived. In some cases, however, the baby may be born after only 26 weeks, and in others it may taJce as long as 41 weeks. Generally, if a baby is born before 35 weeks after conception, it is considered to be premature.
Even in his later years Picasso continued to assemble ready-made objects which he had found somewhere, thus creating sculptures in a way that never ceased to be both playful and ingenious. When he started his larger-than-life "Woman set with baby Carriage Baby Carriage" in 1950 (bottom right), he used a wide variety of different pieces of metal, such as bits from a real pram, but also cake pans and a stove plate, modelled in clay, which he then stuck together and created a most fascinating sculpture. |
