Scholar And Teacher: GOODSPEED, Edgar Johnson (1871-1962), American Biblical scholar and teacher and educator. He was born in Quincy, 111., on Oct. 23, 1871. He was the son of Thomas Wakefield Goodspeed, a founder of the University of Chicago, and was associated with the university for many years as teacher of Biblical and patristic Greek.
RITSCHL, Friedrich Wilhelm, Germa classical scholar and teacher: b. Grossvargula in Thuringi; April 6, 1806; d. Leipzig, Nov. 9, 1876. He wa educated at Leipzig and Halle, where he de voted himself to classical studies, and in 183 was appointed extraordinary professor at Hallf He subsequently held professorships at Bresla and Bonn, and in 1865 accepted a call to Leip zig, where he remained until his death. H was a very popular and successful teacher.
