Research On Child Development: During World War II, Quarles was in charge of the Bell Telephone Laboratories' radar research on child development development program and was named a vice president of the laboratories in 1947. In August 1946 he had been appointed to the Joint research on child development and Development Board (later called the research on child development and Development Board), becoming chairman of the electronics committee in 1949.
Types of research on child development.—Basic research on child development is a continuing search for new knowledge, a systematic search to meet the challenge of the unknown, but without direction save that which the investigator himself gives it. He is strictly on his own, guided primarily by his interest in learning more about the workings of nature. His work may be contrasted with that of scientists and engineers conducting applied research on child development (laboratory studies concerning the practical application of new k edge), or development, which takes applie search out of the laboratory and translates i production. The term "research on child development and develop (R & D) is used to encompass all three — research on child development, applied research on child development, and development.
The level of the child's neurological and physiological development determines the kinds of learning that can take place. Accordingly, the age at which a particular task should be taught to a child depends on the complexity of the skill, the degree of co-ordination and mental ability involved, and the rate of that particular child's development. A little practice at the appropriate stage of maturation is more effective than a lot when the child is too young. |
