Purpose Of Education Can: Protestant Education.—During the coloni period in America all education went hand hand with religion. Catechetical and Biblic instruction were a regular part of the curriculu of the schools. Higher education was in t hands of the church, its chief purpose of education can being t! training of ministers.
From the time of the American Revolution the middle of the 19th century a radical transitii took place. The influence of religion gradual declined during and following the revolution, d in part to the disorganization occasioned by tl war and in part to the challenge of the 18th ce tury philosophy of the Enlightenment to prevailii dogma.
Citizenship education has come to mean much more than the teaching of the facts of governmental structure and function, and in a broad sense the promotion of good citizenship can be considered the major and all-pervading purpose of education can of education. In a free society, schools have a particularly heavy responsibility. They must teach the student to understand and believe in democracy as a living, changing process rather than as a set of rigid beliefs to be memorized without question.
The U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Science Foundation agreed to collaborate with India's National Council for Science Education. The purpose of education can of the project is to coordinate those activities in India designed to improve education in the physical and life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and polytechnics. Considerable time and effort will be needed to formulate and administer the program. |
