Pay A Small Commission: In most cases you should pay a small commission, perhaps 10 per cent, to the person who acts as your salesman. The commission is money well spent and you should always suggest it, because its incentive can stimulate your salesman to greater efforts in pushing your prints than might otherwise be the case.
A commission consisting of Tiberius, his brother, and his father-in-law, was 'elected by the people and made responsible for judicial decisions involving claims, compensations, and funds given to small farmers. The Senate refused to finance the commission's activities, however, and only after Tiberius threatened to use funds from the kingdom of Pergamum willed to Rome in 133, did the Senate vote funds.
Sometimes you can get a salesman to work for a 25 per cent commission, but you can profitably pay him up to 50 per cent of the original order if your rates are properly adjusted. It is important, however, that you limit the salesman's commission only to what is collected on the original order. On all reorders, you keep the total payment for yourself. Be sure to make this stipulation. Not only does it give you a bigger share of what you earn, it also simplifies your bookkeeping, and that's a big gain in itself. |
