Parents And Hears: Perhaps overshadowing even the art-and-profit aspects of baby pictures as a specialty, however, are the opportunities which this field presents for creating happiness for others.
When he delivers a set of fine prints to the parents and hears their cries of delight, the baby photographer senses that his efforts have been well worth while. And he can feel that he has delivered full value for the price he charges.
Accordingly, there exists in Catholic morality the obligation to hear the church. "He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me" (Luke 10:16). The moral directives made by the church are, for die Catholic, not mere counsels but strict obligations, showing die will of God. This does not minimize the importance of conscience, which Vatican II calls "the most secret core and sanctuary of a human being" (Constitution on the Church, section 16); this is so because "authentic freedom is an exceptional sign of the divine image in man" and "man's dignity demands that he act according to a knowing and free choice" (Constitution on the Church).
Children learn first and foremost from their parents. In this respect all parents are teachers - and very effective teachers they are. Arguably, children learn more from their parents in the first five years of life than they do from their schools in the next ten. This book is about parents and teachers working together to help children with their learning; more specifically, it is about parents co-operating with teachers over their own children's reading. We have chosen the term PACT (Parents, Children and Teachers) to embody this concept. |
