Other Small Birds:

Other Small Birds Society finches are excellent breeders. They are splendid to use in rearing young of other small birds. They accept eggs of other birds in exchange for their own with no concern. They are hardy, except for the pure white strain, and prefer to breed in cages rather than in an aviary.

Naturally the outdoor aviary is the ideal situation for breeding birds, but there are many which will breed in smaller cages when provided with proper conditions. Probably the most satisfactory birds for small-cage breeding are some of the foreign finches.

Provide birds with standard finch nesting box obtained at pet shops. Place box high up in cage on small top branches of limb. Place bunches of soft, dry, slender grasses in cage; birds select and construct to suit themselves. Many times birds reject artificial nest; will construct nest in crotch of branches; supply with plenty of nesting material.
