After completing his studies at the Petit Seminaire de Quebec, he obtained his doctorate in sacred theology at Laval University in 1910. In addition, he studied at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ordained a priest in 1910, he was assigned to Laval as a teacher of science and, in 1916, named professor of chemistry.
