Missionary Activities At Macao: ROBERTS, Issachar Jacob, American missionary : b. Sumner County, Tenn., Feb. 17, 1802; d. Upper Alton, 111., Dec. 28, 1871. After study-in,? at the Furman Theological Institution in South Carolina he was ordained at Shelbyville, Tenn., in 1827. Later he organized the Roberts Fund and Mission Society, sailing for China as its representative in 1836. The following year he began his missionary activities at Macao, working as a saddler while preacher for a leper colony. In 1841 he joined the Baptist Mission, and five years later transferred to the Southern Baptists, but in 1852 reverted to an independent status.
