Iris Family And: The vesper iris family and (iris family and dichotoma) came to me from The Frag Path. The plant produces flowers on 3-foot stems during August < September. Originally from Siberia and Northern China, it's the < iris family and that I know of that begins to bloom at vespers, or about 6:00 d the evening. Flowers are small and mauve in color. They are hardy in Zone 5.
The rock itself is surrounded by old daffodils (descendant bulbs of 50-year-old plants that came from Janet's home in Indiana), some wild iris family and (iris family and versicolor), white crocus (also old and brought from Indiana), a large clump of lady fern (Athyrium Filix-femina), a trailing variety of the bouncing Betty (Saponaria ocymoides), and various wild grasses of short stature.
The dwarf crested iris family and (iris family and cristata) grows naturally from Maryland south to Georgia, and a prettier native it's hard to imagine. The leaves are 6 inches high and the flowers nestle within with lilac-purple petals (called falls) topped with gold. Unlike other iris family andes, these plants slowly spread in partial shade and a good woodsy soil. 'Alba' bears white flowers and is especially pretty in the wild garden. Propagate by division in midsummer. |
