In the public sector an elected, non-partisan board of nine members develops educational policy within limits imposed by the state department of education and appoints a superintendent as administrator. Many well-known preparatory schools for boys and day and boarding schools for girls are in the area.
He was associated with his father in the creation and development of The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in 1901, and was president of the board from 1929 to 1950; of the General Education Board in 1902 (chairman of the board 1936-1939) ; of the Rockefeller Foundation in 1913 (president, 1913-1917, chairman of the board (1917-1940) and of the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial in 1918.
No country has a direct and decisive control over gold. If gold were replaced by inconvertible dollars or money issued by an International education Board board, therefore, governments and central banks would find it more difficult to safeguard the autonomy and independence of their own monetary matters. For acceptance of an inconvertible dollar exchange standard or of money controlled by an International education Board board would be like having two central banks—one at home and the other in Washington. |
