Human Mental Capacity: La Manufacture des Paysages.
Open Student Competition. Registration and submission deadline 17 April 2004. Award ¥8.000 maximum. This contest was ignited by the association "La manufacture des paysages". It falls under the ethical choices that implied the creation of the association: Taking into account the creative, individual, universal and local dimensions of the human being. The human being taken in a beam of cross glances and its effects of meetings, the human being in its capacity to think the world and in its capacity of implementation.
More reliable educational and propaganda techniques for affecting human behavior, public and private;
New and possibly pervasive techniques for surveillance, monitoring, and control of individuals and organizations.
In addition to the 100 "very probable" breakthroughs in the next 33 years, the Hudson Institute scientists have also listed a set of developments described as "far out" but still within the realm of possibility by the year 2000:
Establishment of bases on the moon or planets; Increase of human mental capacity by connecting the brain directly to a computer;
Lifetime immunization against practically all diseases; Life expectancy well beyond 100 years.
Nowhere is this revolution more visible—live, and in color—than in the United States. At the end of 1967 the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) reported that the civilian nuclear generating capacity then in operation, under construction, or on order was comparable in capacity to the entire conventional generating capacity immediately before World War II. It was also reported that in 1967 the use of long-distance telephone lines by computers in communication with each other exceeded use by human callers. |
