House Pets:

House Pets Reproduction: Oviparous; 3-5 eggs deposited in June Box turtles spend all or the greater part of their lives on land. They make excellent pets. They are usually found in the mature or half-grown state, when they are too large to house in a terrarium for any length of time. However, they make wonderful pets for a home garden.

The young of the above turtles are the ones which most often fall into the hands of children. They are easy to maintain in captivity at home or at school. The adults are not so easy to house because of their size and their need for room and freedom. Adults should be kept as pets only in a home with a garden pool available, but the young are the simplest of pets to house and maintain. May be kept in school room for a few days for observation; use cage large enough to allow it to move about freely; release in home garden with pond.

Cockateels are hardy in captivity, long-lived, and adapt themselves to cage life. Their size makes it necessary to give them plenty of room, as flight is important exercise for these beautiful birds. Because of their size and their chattering noises they are not successful as classroom pets but are highly recommended as house pets, especially if a very young bird is obtained and reared and trained alone. They are easily maintained when given proper conditions.
