Even if your pictures turn out in a way which you think is pretty disappointing, in a surprising proportion of cases the parents will not be in the least displeased. You may cringe inwardly when you show the proofs and yet the mother and father will be delighted at the likenesses of their child and proceed to amaze you with a big order for prints. So never apologize for the quality of your pictures when you show proofs, at least not to parents.
Not that we should ignore the teacher's point of view in all this parents show. It is not always an unmixed pleasure for teachers to have to meet parents in the evening, after a hard day's work, and show the requisite charm and interest. And teachers have their own anxieties as to what parents may have to say about their work, or about the way the school is tackling some issue.Teachers say:Td like to meet parents but I never seem to have the time to get to know them.'
Hidden in the germ cells of the parents are potentialities that they themselves do not show. Exceptionally intelligent parents can expect their children to be more intelligent than the average, but less intelligent than themselves. Exceptionally dull parents are likely to have children less intelligent than the average, but more intelligent than themselves.
