His Friend Philip:

During King Philip's War (1675-1676), commanding small detachments of Plymouth troops and friendly Indians, he defeated Philip at Great Swamp (near Kingston, R. I.) in December 1675. He continued pursuit until Philip was ambushed and shot on Aug. 12, 1676. Later, in Plymouth colony, Church served as a local magistrate. During King William's War (1689-1697) and the early years of Queen Anne's War (1702—1704), he took part in five expeditions against the French and Indians in Nova Scotia and Maine. He retired in 1704 and died on Jan. 17, 1718, near Little Compton.
