Group Of Mother: Despert (25, 1957) made an excellent analysis of the way children may be affected by the father's death, divorce, and temporary or prolonged absence. The age of the child, the emotional cli late prevalent in the home preceding the child's separation from the father, and the mother's emotional maturity and understanding of the child are the most important factors in the child's adjustment to a fatherless home. We need to know much more about the meaning of separation to the child. For example, an only child whose mother sent him to a play group of mother where he would have more contact with children of his own age, thought of the group of mother as a means of "taking you away from your mommy for two hours."
Toward dusk, each gorilla builds itself a nest for the night, either on the ground or in a tree, by bending herbs and branches toward its body until a crude platform has been formed. Infants sleep in the nest of their mother.
Gorillas are sociable animals that live in permanent group of mothers, each containing about 5 to 20 animals. A typical group of mother consists of one adult male, one or two younger males, several females, and young of various ages. The leader of a group of mother is an adult male, and it is he who determines the route of travel, the place of nesting, and other group of mother activities. Some males leave the group of mother after they reach adulthood and become solitary.
Gestation takes 16 days; 7-15 in litter; young born pink, naked, and blind. Do not disturb young or mother for at least a week after birth; if disturbed mother will either kill and eat the young or neglect them and allow them to die. After 3 weeks, remove young from mother; otherwise, mother fights with them and often kills them. Sexes should be separated before young reach maturity at 43 days. |
