Eriksons Theory Of Development And Child Sexual Abuse: An analysis of child welfare cases handled by public child welfare agencies would indicate (bat the most important category of problems presented by the children served is that of neglect, abuse, and exploitation. It ranks third among the problems faced by children receiving service from voluntary agencies. Not all the instances of serious neglect, abuse, and exploitation are known to agencies equipped to give protective services, and there is growing reason to believe that the number of unprotected children in serious jeopardy far exceeds the number known to protective service agendes at this time.
A child's experiences during the first few weeks of life affect his future development. According to some psychologists—Rank and Jung, for example—the birth experience itself is a basic cause of future anxiety and has a profound influence on the child's personality. However, there is little evidence to support this eriksons theory of development and child sexual abuse of the birth trauma (41, pp. 403-20, 1956).
The level of the child's neurological and physiological development determines the kinds of learning that can take place. Accordingly, the age at which a particular task should be taught to a child depends on the complexity of the skill, the degree of co-ordination and mental ability involved, and the rate of that particular child's development. A little practice at the appropriate stage of maturation is more effective than a lot when the child is too young. |
