Education Careers: The education required for a technical career in radio ranges from a few courses in a vocationally oriented high school to a Ph. D. in electrical engineering. Persons with various levels of technical education can find interesting careers in radio.
The salesman at a radio station sells time rather than a product. He may sell an entire program, a segment of a program, or spot announcements to advertisers. He must have a thorough knowledge of the station's programming in order to fill the needs of the advertiser.
The school or nursery can also be a route into employment and a stepping stone to further or higher education for those who start as classroom assistants or become involved as parent governors. Confidence is regained, forgotten skills revived and new ones developed. The end goal for many is not only teaching, but women especially have gone on to create new careers for themselves in arenas where good interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills are required.
In our two collections, Young Children Learning and Teaching Young Children, by authors who are or who have been tutors at Canterbury Christ Church College, we are exploring the ways in which we all need to open our minds and reflect on learning and teaching, and their relationships to each other, during the first two 'cycles' of children's education careers - the preschool and early primary phases, between birth and eight years. |
