Early Education At Benedictine French historian and theologian. 7i of noble parents at Clermont-en-Beauvoisis .053, Guibert received his early education at Benedictine Abbey of Flavigny. In 1104 he ale the abbot of Nogent-sous-Coucy in the Ģe of Laon, where he died in 1124. ',uibert's works include the letter De buccella v, attacking Berenger of Tour's heresy on the re of the real presence in the Eucharist, and fintroversial De rrignoribus sanctorum, which ired the contemporary use of relics.

All of the various forms of monastic community have continued to exist in modern times. From the 15th to the 18th century, external circumstances led some Benedictine congregations to adopt a centralized system in which the monk'smembership was in the congregation as a whc but the traditional Benedictine emphasis on 1 individual monastic family has now been univi sally restored.


Until recently Dr Richard Bailey was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at Christ Church University College. He is now in the Department of Science and Technology Education at the University of Reading, where he teaches in the area of Physical Education. His primary research interests concern the contributions the biological sciences can make to education, especially in the early years. Current projects include the evolutionary nature of children's play and children's physiological responses to physical activity.
