Culture And Child Development In Child Welfare: Rather, it is most often used in its narrower sense, to describe the one area of the total social welfare field that is specifically concerned with the well-being of children and with child-rearing problems, such as illegitimate birth, child neglect or abandonment, or with other aspects of parental incapacity or parent-child relationship around which specific social services have been developed. Agencies, or parts of agencies, that have specialized in providing or developing one or more of these services are known as child welfare agencies, or child welfare departments, and social workers providing these services are often—but not always—called child welfare workers.
Protective services are more easily described than defined. In carrying them out, the designated child welfare agency, which in most places in the United States is the public child welfare agency, acts on a complaint received from the police, or from schools, courts, neighbors, physicians, or othe social agencies, by sending a child welfare worke to the family's home. He confronts the parenl with the community's concern and tries to lean about the quality of child care they do or couli provide.
This impersonal authority has the advantage of protecting the mother-child relationship from the child's resentment of imposed restrictions. Although children are cherished, it is not a child-centered culture and child development in child welfare; the child is expected to fit into the adult world. Another feature in the Lebanese culture and child development in child welfare is the relatively large family circle, which may at once give the child greater indulgence and greater security. Parents are more casual and less self-critical with respect to their methods of child care. |
