Cliff House An: The irst ancient land-dwelling vertebrate to be found ?n Antarctica, it was discovered in a cliff near ;he head of the Beardmore Glacier, only 325 mi (523 km) from the South Pole. The sediments in which the fossil was found were deposited in a swampy stream more than 200 'nillion years ago. With it in the cliff were ossils of typical freshwater plants of early Triassic age (225 million to 180 million years oefore the present time).
