Children who are physically or mentally limited are greatly in need of being understood and often have special problems of adjustment. They are often subjected to situations too difficult for them. The special leniency and attention they receive because of their handicap is often diminished as they grow older, and sometimes discontinued altogether when a baby arrives. They may interpret this decrease in consideration as a sign of rejection. The great need is to break the pattern of rejection—»mis-behavior—»more rejection-»a vicious cycle.
CHILDBIRTH is the process by which a baby is expelled from the uterus, or womb, through the vagina to the outside world. Normally, a baby is born about 38 weeks (266 days) after it is conceived. In some cases, however, the baby may be born after only 26 weeks, and in others it may taJce as long as 41 weeks. Generally, if a baby is born before 35 weeks after conception, it is considered to be premature. |
