Attendance In Activities Organized: The growing cultural interests of Hong Kong people are reflected in the large attendance in activities organized by City Hall, the cultural center of Hong Kong. Its facilities include a 1,500-seat concert hall, a 470-seat theater, an art gallery, several exhibition halls, a public library, and a museum. The colony has a large motion picture industry, and its rate of movie attendance is one of the highest in the world.
Indoor centers vary from a large club house, with its fifteen or twenty major activities, to the small room in a church or school, large enough for only a game of Table tennis or for small group meetings.
The National Recreation Association, in its biennial report for 1948 giving the number of various facilities and the records of attendance for 1,673 cities, towns, counties and school districts, showed an attendance of about 162,000,000 at 1,282 bathing beaches or swimming pools (indoor and outdoor). Several other sports or facilities showed attendances in the tens of millions.
Camping is widely organized under governmental, voluntary, and commercial auspices. The American Camping Association has an individual membership of over 3,500 most of whom are camp directors. Attendance at various types of summer camps probably is between 3,000,000 and 5,000,000. Day camps have been developed in most urban communities. |
