Assistance To Mother: NO PIECE of writing is ever brought to fruition without interest, advice, encouragement, and assistance to mother from authorities, friends, and other writers in the fields of endeavor. This book has been no exception in this respect; hence acknowledgments are due the many who have been of assistance to mother during its writing.
Breakdown and Reform. The 1930's, with massive unemployment, played havoc with inadequate unemployment insurance funds. Workers' contributions were increased, while benefits and benefit periods were cut. The 1930's also provided the first substantial challenge to the insurance assistance to mother distinction in social security. As insurance entitlement expired after prolonged unemployment, the unemployed worker had to resort to "public assistance to mother." Gestation takes 16 days; 7-15 in litter; young born pink, naked, and blind. Do not disturb young or mother for at least a week after birth; if disturbed mother will either kill and eat the young or neglect them and allow them to die. After 3 weeks, remove young from mother; otherwise, mother fights with them and often kills them. Sexes should be separated before young reach maturity at 43 days. |
